When they came out with the "Walkman" that let playing your cassette tapes be portable, I thought technology had reached its limit. But then years later they came out with the "Portable CD Player". Believe it or not I went into a Music store the other day and looked to see if they had any cassette tapes and did you know they don't? And in fact they are called CD stores now...who knew? But whats even more crazy is that "Portable CD Players" are now considered "uncool"! Well what is cool? The IPod.
An IPod is a tiny portable device that plays digital music files called "MP3s". It allows people to store 2,000 or more songs on it or their own choice. You can create playlists by genre, and even make specialized playlists. Go to New York City and you will see 1 in 3 people walking by have an IPod on listening to music to drown out the city noise. They are the "cool" thing to have.
While they may be cool, they can get pricey. Even if you get a generic "MP3 Player" it still is more than I want to spend on my relatives. But, there is a cool new product out there for all your grandchildren, nieces and nephews that have IPods or MP3 Players.
Crocs has come out with an IPod speaker bag you can take to the beach! Basically you plug the IPod or MP3 Player (and believe it or not it works with a CD Player too) into the speakers inside the bag and you control the volume with your IPod. Then you zip the bag up so that your IPod stays perfectly protected and water and sand free! And it comes with a Crocs Beach Towel all for just $20!
I spotted them at a new store called "Flip Flopz" that is a flip flop superstore that sells Crocs, Flops and much more in Largo, Florida. (1970 Belcher Rd. S. Largo, FL 33771; 727-530-7136 or FlipFlopzLargo@gmail.com). If you check them out, tell them that www.Snowbirdy.com sent you!
Sometimes its hard to stay connected to the younger generation that is changing what seems like constantly! Christmas comes around sooner ever year. I was shopping the other day and noticed there were some stores that already had Christmas stuff out! I thought that we were supposed to go through Halloween and Thanksgiving first?
Well in an effort to help ease my holiday stress (and yours as well) I am beginning my search for Christmas Gifts for friends and family. One thing I think as we get older that we seem to have problems with is knowing "what's cool" in this day and age. (Don't tell my husband this though because he still thinks he is the king of cool!) But I am doing my research and trying to find gifts for anyone ages 12-26 that are "cool", "hip" or as the younger generation might call "phat" or "hot" (I think). This will be my first in a series of recommendations so look to our "Tech Smarts" section for more gift recommendations in the future!
