ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways announced the airline recently expanded flights to some of Florida's most popular destinations. Just in time for Old Man Winter, the low-cost carrier has increased nonstop service from Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers, Tampa and Sarasota/Bradenton to accommodate snowbirds in the Midwest and on the East Coast. The additional flights are operated by AirTran Airways' popular and efficient Boeing 717 and 737 aircraft.
New nonstop routes to Ft. Lauderdale from Boston and Detroit and to Ft. Myers from Boston and White Plains, N.Y. are now available. AirTran Airways has also resumed nonstop, seasonal routes from Indianapolis to Ft. Lauderdale and Sarasota/Bradenton and from Flint to Tampa.
"AirTran Airways wants to make this year's winter travel season a bright one for our customers seeking sun-soaked getaways for both business and pleasure," said Kevin Healy, AirTran Airways' vice president of planning. "With our expansion in these popular Florida markets, AirTran Airways' customers will have more opportunities to escape the frigid temperatures in the Midwest and Northeast this winter and holiday season." He added, "With the youngest all Boeing fleet in America, the largest overhead bins available, and complimentary XM Satellite Radio in every seat, plus an award-winning frequent flier program, travelers can comfortably thaw out on their way to one of our 10 Florida destinations."
"With so many visitors coming to Florida from the northern and midwestern part of the United States, this additional service by AirTran Airways for the winter months will make it easier for them to experience all that the Sunshine State has to offer," said Bud Nocera, president and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA.
In addition to the new and enhanced routes, AirTran Airways initiated new nonstop service to Tampa from Detroit and Ft. Lauderdale from Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport on November 7, 2006.
