“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want…”
(Psalms 23:1)
Show me a “seven”! You can’t do it. You can show me a symbol of a seven … you can hold up seven fingers or write "7" on a piece of paper but in reality you can’t show me a seven. Why? Because a “seven” is a mental concept that represents a certain quantity of things. How do you know this? Because we were taught in school that this is a fact, so we accepted this idea and believed in it. We worked math problems and saw that it worked. It made sense and we trusted it to be a part of our everyday reality. But, the truth is that a “seven” is a mental concept that we accept by faith to be true. In reality you can’t show me a “seven” and yet scientists used numbers to calculate critical factors that allowed us to put a man on the moon. Surprisingly enough, it was all based upon faith assertions.
God, created us with the intellect to believe. To operate in the sphere of “faith”! To reach beyond the boundaries of prove-ability at times and walk on the surface of the improbable. He created us with this potential so that we might connect with Him and His incomprehensible reality. It is amazing to me that if we can trust in the number 7 ( among an infinite number of others) then we have been given the ability to trust in God. We are equipped to see beyond the visible and expand our daily reality to the eternal. For me, this has enabled me to know and experience our creator and to live in a world that is filled with unexplainable cruelty and evil. My “faith” in God has empowered me with hope and given me a future that reaches beyond this life. The Lord is my shepherd…and I shall not want!
